But I kept reminding myself that this story was relevent..I'd lived this story...but it just wasn't enough. Finally I amped (ampted?? hmmm)it up, added sleeping pills and a rifle and a bitter scene in a parking lot and all of a sudden it all came together.
Keep trying if you believe in the concept. You have a lot invested. Change something up or add another action scene that takes your characters to a whole new level.
Good luck and keep writing!!Karenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17471022199980271777noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3409889324078100917.post-84178126003748993562012-03-07T09:38:27.784-07:002012-03-07T09:38:27.784-07:00Charles, it's fantastic. The elevator is sure to plunge another story or two, the strangers will fear for their lives and spill their deepest darkest secrets to each other to be rid of them before dying, thus realizing they haven't been truly LIVING their lives and now they might END, and then they realize that they are MEANT to BE and now they might never know how wonderful their relationship could be if they are dead. I wish I had it to hand, but I think I recall the advice was to ... try and describe non-cliched things, focusing on more original details, relying more on the power of suggestion (as you say) rather than being explicit. To try and not create a fantasy, but to include moments of awkwardness and even light comedy to create a sense of the real.

Definitely one of the hardest things to write. And the treatment of the sex scene must definitely be influenced by your narrative voice. If you have a confident, unpleasent narrator, (s)he will probably be much more blasé and explicit - unless, of course, you're creating deliberate contrast to show a different level of character.

Anyhoo, I think I've rambled long enough.

(And, of course, there's this: http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/badsexaward)Sophie Playlehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14937622260333202138noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3409889324078100917.post-75531932236311955452012-02-17T07:27:14.481-07:002012-02-17T07:27:14.481-07:00I made up a lot of stories for Josh back in the da...I made up a lot of stories for Josh back in the day and he enjoyed 'em.
