5 Soul Journey

I want to try to stay afloat by posting something during this busy time, so I'll post this poem. It was a poem that my group members and I put together in our creative writing class. Each of the 5 of us in the group got to write a line of poetry, but were only allowed to see the line just above ours. So, none of us knew what the rest was writing in the poem, except for the last line written. We all got to contribute 2 lines total. This is the poem that we ended up with. I was VERY excited to see how well it turned out. I call it "5 Soul Journey," though we didn't officially name it.

I glisten at images of her,
Waves of regret burn a whole in my soul,
There is a fine line between pleasure and pain.
So let us strip these sheets and begin this game.,
Leave our homes and travel west by plane.

Escaping the inevitable yet deserved fate,
It’s a joyful thing breaking free,
Finally escaping from what felt like the chains of hell,
With sin in my dust, I gravitate toward righteousness,
I bow my head, fold my arms, and travel forth to unknown lands.

Yin's Love

Keeping this post light today, I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for the encouraging words regarding my upcoming wedding and writing. You all have been so very helpful to me in so many ways and I want to say a thanks. Also, I just wanted to share a poem that I'm submitting to my local college publication's poetry contest. I'm not big on contests, but it doesn't hurt to try right? Here's the poem, titled "Yin's Love."

Ever since my Yang came back,
His face has changed,
His image black.

Where once like me, his every movement lithe,
Fluid in touch,
His soul was alive.

What happened since he went away,
Yang turned aside,
He lost his way.

Though I wanted to follow, I couldn't go along,
I'm simply Yin,
I just wasn't as strong.

Then returning from whence, I asked that he tell,
Yang seemed so different,
Like he'd just escaped Hell.

I was glad he was back, on this I've not lied,
Yet his demeanor seems darker,
It's as if he had died.

And so we've picked up, where once we left off,
I hold up my Yang,
While he stares from aloft.

Yet in its place, where once was a grin,
His passion abated,
As he stares at his Yin.

I'll never let go, despite his look from above,
Every Yang needs his Yin,
And even darkness needs love.

Riddle for the Weekend

In lieu of my "People don't like long posts" rant, I'm leaving you all with a short post. It's a riddle that I wrote for a gentleman I knew who had been on Jeopardy. He and I used to exchange puzzles and riddles and I wrote this one just for him. Take a stab at it. There's no prize at this point if you get it right, but I'm curious to see if anyone gets it. So without further ado, here it is:

This thing I'm thinking of in my mind,
This thing it still affects the blind.

If you think it's fast, you're probably right,
but it'll never be as fast as the speed of light.

When it moves, it moves like the sea,
and it does indeed come from that riddled tree.

This thing you can feel when it hits your face,
but this thing you can never embrace.

Good luck and have a great weekend and remember, your answer must make sense for EVERY line in the riddle.
