I May Never Finish My Novel

I recently purchased a book called "The Writer's Guide to Character Traits," to help me in the development of new characters for my novels. I have a pretty vivid imagination, but when it comes to the dynamic nature of a character, there are certain qualities that are inherently more common in certain personality types. As I was scanning through the pages, searching for a character type for my WIP's antagonist, I ran across the trait called "Perfectionist." I couldn't pass up reading it, since I've always felt that I was a perfectionist, and I found that I was absolutely right. The qualities and description were almost dead on and I really felt like it helped put into words how I've felt about myself for years.

I realize there are a myriad of character types out there, but which categories would you put yourself into? I look forward to hearing from you all!

LOL, I'm NOT a perfectionist. I'm probably a dreamer, if that's a classification. I don't entirely live in this world...

um...I'd say I'm a free spirit. very open to wherever my characters take me.

I'm a type B perfectionist ;) -- usually relaxed/apathetic to most thing, but very particular about others.

I'm quite the perfectionist. Sometimes it's a good thing and other times... not so good.

Tere: You can make any classification you'd like. Dreamers sounds legit. Keep on writing the stuff that dreams are made of and you'll surpass the rest right?

Tamara: Free spirit for you huh? Does that mean, your hubby has to remind you to close the blinds cuz you are always running around the house in your skivvy's?

Bane: So you are basically expecting everyone else to be perfect, while you are a bit more lax. That's definitely a new category :) ROCK IT! I wish people around me were perfect, but sadly only I can be :P j/k

Ash: Thanks a bunch! I don't deserve much of anything, but I accept (see, that's the perfectionist in me talkin)

Stephanie: I agree. It can come in handy when doing certain things, but sometimes (like in my writing) it can hinder me from true progress.

I am the sloppiest perfectionist you will ever meet. I'm also the most impatient calm person I know, and quite social yet shy. So I guess the best way to describe me is, I'm a paradox.

And no, not a "pair a docs", because then I would have to add multiple-personality disorder to my list. But now that I think of it, I probably should anyway...

LOL Lydia. There's help for people like you. I know, cuz my other personality told me so :P

I tend to look at myself as someone who sees details. Perfectionist?... That's so me. I have characters with this flaw in my book too.

People Watcher and victim of monkey mind (my brain never shuts off). I'm always watching, observing, creating stories, or analyzing.

Which reminds me, I'm exhausted. lol.

I would say I'm the happy go lucky type and a bit scatterbrained. I'm not sure how that translates into writing. I do know that the times I'm not getting enough writing done are the times I'm focusing on my family, so I guess that's a good reason for delays.

I'm in the type that too often wishes it were another type.

J.J.: So I imagine you'll have just a difficult a time editing your book as I do mine. I'm too hard on myself and constantly want to re-write.

Karen: PEOPLE WATCHER!? I am pretty sure that's illegal. :P just kidding.

Candace: Scatterbrain = lots of additions to your book probably, or a messy desk hehe.

Charlse: I totally know what you mean. I'm so ticked that I wasn't born with the ability to control time... sigh

Um...the perfectionist in you might want to clean up your office. There's an awful lot of paper behind your chair!

Haha, cat, so true. Although that's just a google imaegs picture, but that's definitely how I feel about my novel :o)
