The Write Conditions

So, I'm a mostly-native Phoenician here in Arizona and as most people imagine, it's SUNNY SUNNY SUNNY 24/7. The implication of that would be, I hate the sun... (Ok, hate is a strong word, maybe not hate, but definitely don't enjoy) I get the sun so much that I can easily say I'm sick of it. When we get a nice overcast day out here, I really pep up. I mean, it's like running into a long lost school mate that you used to be best friends with and haven't seen in years.

On to the point:

As I think about it, I imagine what my best conditions would be for writing. If it were up to me, it'd be something like this.

1. It would be overcast and or pouring rain.
2. I would be in my office which would have books from wall to wall around me
3. I'd have a Siberian Husky curled up next to my desk
4. I'd have no children within 800 yards of me
5. I would have breakfast, lunch and dinner served to me via butler or french maid! :P

I'm pretty sure that's my dream writing conditions. What would yours be?

Thats incredibly close to mine-I may have you beat in that I already have wall to wall books surronding me but at this very moment 2 out of 3 kids are attacking me and my desk.

And no chance of butler or maid for avery long time.

I write speculative historical fiction-lots of Phoenician's in my books (not the first soon to be published so much-but the sequels) I will have to write in one who hates the sun.

Haha, nice. Yes, I talk to people all the time who move here to get into the sun, but if I had it my way, I'd move away from it LOL. I want to live in Seattle :)

I'm originally from NM and am still in awe of the rain in other parts of the country.

Writing on a rainy day is lovely.

And I love THE SHADOW OF THE WIND.

I'm with you on one and two, and I have an office like that. As for the French Maid, I think it might be distracting.

Mine is a nice quiet evening. I love the sun (as I don't see it much in Alaska) and hate to be inside on a sunny summer day. But a quiet winter night makes for great writing.

Caroline: Welcome to the blog! Thanks for the comment. I am going to restart Shadow of the Wind here, as soon as I finish Shiver. I didn't give it my full attention the first time, but it was still awesome.

Charles: You are correct, the maid would be very distracting. Good point.

Stephanie: Alaska! I would love to visit Alaska. It is on my bucket list to make a trip there and experience the beauty.

I miss the heavy thunderstorms of Tennessee, lounging all day on the couch watching old b&w movies like Elephant Walk or Waterloo Bridge. CA doesn't have cloudy days often either but i love the weather. Your day would be perfect for weather for writing conditions substitute the desk for an overstuffed comfy chair.

I'm a native Arizonan (though I live in Ohio now). Today, I'm missing the sun you complain of. :)
