Pompeii Lovers

If you aren't familiar with the story of Pompeii, go check it out on the Wikipedia. I wrote this love poem as if we were lovers in the time and location of the great Vesuvias eruption of Pompeii.

A faerie wing of burning light,
In sunless day like starry night.
We dance on dusk as daytime dies,
Embrace each other with our eyes.

The lupine children call our name
The lords of air they do the same.
We dance on dusk as daytime dies.

Embrace each other with our eyes.

Leafless root-worn grassless field,
Burning wind's touch does not yield.
We dance on dusk as daytime dies.
Embrace each other with our eyes.

Storybook love not false but true,
History will speak of me and you.
Of how we danced,
While others cried.

Locked in embrace,
Until we died.

A Forgotten Poem

I wrote this a while back when I was going through some pain over a lost relationship. I read it today and thought I'd share it. I know writing and poetry are two different worlds, but in my life they are both outlets for me. So, here ya go:

Shed the Pain

Graven images of ill-born memory,
blockade against my mind.

Forlorn thoughts of recent events,
break thru, trying to remind.

As people pass and days grow cold,
The feelings get in the way.

My heart it aches and hardens now,
My soul it darkens day by day.

Favored tales so full of hope,
They shed their false birthed life.

Forever reminding people like me,
reminding me of stress and strife.

One day I will walk away,
One day I'll be true.

And on that day, I'll not look back,
I'll shed my thoughts of you.

Notre Coeur Ensemble

So the Girl With One Eye over at A Squirrel Amongst Lions reminded me that I'm overdue to share some of my old hidden feelings of love. Despite my ex-wife's views on my idea of love, I'm actually a sucker for a good love story. In fact, I've written a good portion of love poems over the years. I don't claim that they are good, but they are what they are. Here is one of the latest poems I wrote for my soon to be bride.

Notre Coeur Ensemble

Along the barren road beyond,
away from all that's well.

Our hearts they ached, destitute,
a loveless hollow shell.

Where "what once was" is just a thought,
and time it plays its game.

Our souls they yearned for something more,
to break us from the pain.

And suddenly aloft our needy thoughts,
a shining ray of light.

Our eyes they met with intense gaze,
love was in our sight.

Now our chains have broken loose,
as we walk off hand in hand.

Our journey now has just begun,
This journey will be grand.
